For Immediate Release
The Saugeen, Grey Sauble, Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Region is pleased to announce that Michael Traynor has been appointed as Chair of the Drinking Water Source
Protection Committee for the local planning region.
“I am very much looking forward to my role as Chair of the Source Protection Committee and working with local communities and stakeholders,” Mr. Traynor said.
The new Chair was chosen by the Hon. Laurel Broten, Minister of the Environment, after considering a locally-developed short list of highly qualified nominees. Mr. Traynor’s
appointment is a benchmark event for the on-going process of establishing the Saugeen, Grey Sauble, Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Committee (SPC). The SPC will oversee
the planning process to establish programs and policies to protect municipal drinking water sources in this region, as called for under the Clean Water Act, 2006, and its regulations.
Mr. Traynor has over six years of municipal political experience and is presently a councillor for the Municipality of Meaford. He was born and raised in Grey County, then worked in the
education field as a researcher, professor, coordinator, chairman, principal and director of academic studies. He recently retired after a rewarding thirty two year career at Georgian
College of Applied Arts and Technology. Currently, Mr. Traynor is working as a consultant as Senior Lead for Inter Generational Programs across Ontario. His broad background will be
invaluable as he guides the Source Protection Committee in its important responsibilities.
Fifteen other members will be appointed to the SPC by the Saugeen Valley Source Protection Authority. Applications for these positions are being accepted until October 3, 2007.
