Source Protection Committee Publishes Draft Proposed Terms of Reference

The Drinking Water Source Protection Committee (SPC) for the Saugeen, Grey Sauble, Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Region has published its Draft Proposed Terms of Reference.
A public comment period extends until June 27, 2008.

As part of the Drinking Water Source Protection Program, the Draft Proposed Terms of Reference documents outline the development of Assessment Reports and Source Protection Plans. A separate Draft Proposed Terms of Reference has been created for each Source Protection Area in our Region: Saugeen Valley Source Protection Area; Grey Sauble Source Protection Area; and Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Area.

The Terms of Reference is essentially a work plan that identifies what specific work items or tasks must be completed to develop an Assessment Report and a Source Protection Plan for each
Source Protection Area. The Terms of Reference also describes municipal drinking water systems within the Source Protection Areas. It stipulates what agencies will be responsible for
the various tasks, the date by which each task will be completed, and the estimated cost of each task.

A copy of the Draft Proposed Terms of Reference has been published online and can be viewed at: www.waterprotection.ca. As well, paper copies can be viewed during business hours at the
following six locations beginning May 26 through June 27: Saugeen Valley Conservation, Grey Sauble Conservation, Northern Bruce Peninsula Municipal Offices, Town of the Blue Mountains
Municipal Offices, Township of Southgate Municipal Offices and Municipality of Kincardine Municipal Offices.

Public meetings have been scheduled where members of the public can inspect the Draft Proposed Terms of Reference, speak with members of the Source Protection Committee and staff, and submit comments on the following dates:

  • JUNE 17, 2008 – 2:00 to 8:00 pm. Grey Sauble Conservation Office – Lower Level
    237897 Inglis Falls Road (just south of Owen Sound, 1.5 km north of Grey Rd 18)
  • JUNE 18, 2008 – 2:00 to 8:00 pm. Northern Bruce Peninsula Municipal Office.
    56 Lindsay Road 5 (10 km north of Ferndale, 500 m east of Highway 6)
  • JUNE 19, 2008 – 2:00 to 8:00 pm. Saugeen Conservation office – Resource Centre
    261123 Grey Rd. 28 (5 km south of Hanover, 1 km east of Grey Rd 10)

Public Comments about the Draft Proposed Terms of Reference are now being received. Comments must be submitted in writing and received by 4:30 pm on Friday, June 27, 2008, 4:30
pm. Comments can be sent by mail to: Drinking Water Source Protection, c/o Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, 237897 Inglis Falls Rd. RR# 4, Owen Sound, ON N4K 5N6. By fax to
519-371-0437, Attn: Drinking Water Source Protection. By email to mail@waterprotection.ca.

Source Protection and the contents of the Draft Proposed Terms of Reference, and a copy the Public Notice that will appear in local newspapers the week of May 27, 2008.
