Public Consultation for the Saugeen, Grey Sauble, Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Region, regarding proposed amendments to the approved Source Protection Plan.
This notice of amendments is sent as a requirement under Section 50 of Ontario Regulation 287/07 under the Clean Water Act, 2006.
The draft amendments include an adjustment to the Durham Wellhead Protection Area (WHPA) as a result of a new well 1C located east of existing wells (see Durham WHPA Map). Property owners are being notified within this newly delineated area, that existing Source Protection Plan policies may now affect certain activities within vulnerable areas on their property. These include the potential requirement to establish risk management plans for the storage and application of certain agricultural materials, for the storage of certain types of chemicals in quantities greater than twenty-five litres, and fuels greater than 250 litres and/or the local municipality could require septic system inspections as specified under the Building Code Act. Property location and circumstances will determine which policies apply.
The amendments will be posted for Public Consultation commencing August 17, 2026 until September 22, 2026, on this website.
Please send your comments in writing by email: mail@waterprotection.ca or by mail to: Drinking Water Source Protection, 237897 Inglis Falls Road, RR4, Owen Sound ON N4K 5N6. Written comments must be received no later than September 22, 2026.
Chesley Well #4 Technical Work and Resolution by Council
As part of the planned Section 34 amendments to the Saugeen Grey Sauble Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Plan, Staff have been working with the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie and consultants to review source protection implications for a new Chesley Well #4. Modelling data from the original studies were provided and compared with updated groundwater information, along with planned pumping rates for the new well to help determine minor amendments to the Wellhead Protection Areas (WHPA).
Given the location of the new Well #4, the current WHPA provides suitable protection for the new water supply, with a slight extension to the WHPA-A around Well #4 at the South end of the area. The addition of a new WHPA-A for Well #4 affects the same properties and does not result in the addition of any new properties or threats. Staff presented this technical update to the Arran-Elderslie Municipal Council on August 10, 2026
